In the 94th minute, Lloris misjudged a long-range shot from West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice and the ball went in the back of the net. It was a cruel way for Lloris to end his return, and his mistake cost Spurs the game.
Speaking after the game, Lloris admitted it was a mistake that he should not have made. He said: “I take full responsibility for the goal. I should have done better and I know that. I’m sorry to my teammates, the manager and the fans for my mistake. I will work hard to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino was quick to support Lloris after the game. He said: “It’s a difficult moment for Hugo. Everyone makes mistakes and he is no different. We have to stick together and help him get through this. I have complete faith in him and I know he will come back stronger.”
